Lady Eagles Team Philosophy:
As members of the Lady Eagles volleyball program we are dedicated to become true student-athletes who value academics, integrity, commitment, excellence and hard work. As Lady Eagles, we will strive to give all our positive energy towards our team, that we strive for the betterment of the team, and accept what we cannot control. When the Lady Eagles are guests in another school, we carry ourselves as young ladies and be graceful in our demeanor. Behave in a way that earns respect!
The Lady Eagle Coaches are an amazing group of women athletes who are excited to be part of your growth in volleyball. It is their goal to inspire you to be passionate about volleyball and to nurture your strengths as young athletes. Most importantly, they strive to make you the best team you can be.
Team First
Learning to play as a "team" is difficult for most, but it is key in the Lady Eagles volleyball program. Each player MUST decide if she buys into our system and is willing to commit to the team. You must maintain the same enthusiasm both on the bench and on the court. You accept that playing time is decided by the coach for the good of the team in any given moment. Be excited all the time and jazzed at every chance to hold a volleyball in your hand. If you do not accept our system, you should not be part of the team.
Respect
Respect in different cultures are often difficult to adhere to, but there's a simple saying you hear over and over again; "Do on to others, as you want them to do on to you." You have to make necessary steps to make yourself and your team better.
Family
The Lady Eagle Coaches have a strong sense of commitment to our volleyball family, and with that carries over with our every day dealings on and off the court. We recognize that each individual has a different definition of "family", but with the Lady Eagles volleyball community, view it as a "fun" and safe environment to enrich your athletic abilities, strengths and leadership skills at West Anchorage High School.
Lady Eagles Parent Philosophy:
Parents and the community are the central foundation to the success of the Lady Eagles Volleyball program. We're looking forward to building community support from parents, families, teachers, school administrations, and especially the fans. We are excited to be given the opportunity to build a tradition within the West Anchorage community! We have a strong and committed group of parents, and we welcome your support and involvement with the Lady Eagles volleyball program.
Communication with coaches
We encourage you to insist on your daughter to work-out volleyball related issues directly with her coach before enlisting your help. Also, avoid jumping to conclusions and give at least 24 hours after a heated-event to cool off before contacting a coach. We love talking with parents, as most of us Lady Eagle coaches are parents too! Contact us by email or call us, and we can set-up a face-to-face meet. But, we cannot be interrupted during practices and especially game days.
Playing time
Spirited bench players are contagious to their teammates with optimism and extra energy. You should keep focused on the match while not on the court, it increases your chances of success once you enter the game. Line-ups are based solely on the team's chemistry, opponent's strength and weaknesses. Playing time is earned by your effort, your ability to learn and improve, and the ability to quickly bounce back from your mistakes. Don't measure your daugther's playing experience by the amount of her playing time. We strive to instill into each player the love for the sport, teaching her to value opportunity to be strong and confident whether in practices or in games. Hard work, commitment, perseverance and responsibility will be rewarded.
Sportsmanship
We all know what its like to be ridiculed and to loose a match. Please stay positive and celebrate both our team and the opponents efforts. Your actions are every child's strongest influence! Please don't compare your daugther's skill or attitude with another member of the team out loud. Refrain from yelling at the officials, the lines person, the score keeper as every official whistle constitutes a final call. Please take the time to learn the volleyball rules and strategies. The Lady Eagle coaches will make mistakes, will say the wrong thing, will put in a bad line-up or will show poor coaching, but you will appreciate it if you would see all the details.
